Job Description

To perform all types of welding tasks that support the maintenance operations like Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Arc and Gas (Oxygen and Acetylene) welding of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals ensuring all welding actions are accomplished in accordance with industry standards, manufacturer’s technical manuals.

Policies, Processes and Procedures

             Follows all relevant section policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner

Day- to-day operations

             Follows the day-to-day operations related to own jobs in the Mechanical Workshop Section to ensure continuity of work.

Equipment Monitoring

             Monitors the physical condition of mechanical equipments that come for maintenance, checks for physical cracks, wear & tear etc., report abnormalities in order to facilitate effective maintenance of all KJO facilities as per set Quality/ HSE standards.

House Keeping

             Cleans non production areas under on a regular basis to ensure that debris is disposed of in a timely manner and health and safety risks are minimised.

             Informs Foreman of completion of tasks and ensures work areas are cleaned & tools/equipments are rearranged as per set standards and procedures after maintenance activity.

Maintenance Activities

             Attends toolbox meeting to discuss maintenance priorities; receives instructions from Forman on welding tasks along with work orders, shop drawings & samples and obtains the necessary materials, tools and equipment to facilitate timely completion of operation as per given instruction & HSE standards.

             Reads & interprets drawings / sketches, and makes freehand layout on metal to perform modifications, fabrication and welding operations based on specifications and standard procedures.

             Welds, cuts and brazes metal and metal parts by operating the welding equipment and tools.  Works with ferrous and non ferrous metals such as brass, bronze, cast iron, copper and stainless steel and aluminum.  Carries out pipeline welding for gas, oil, steam and water lines using various flat, vertical and overhead welding methods.

             Operates inert gas welding equipment, and welds material such as heat resistant steel and copper-nickel alloys for the maintenance of heat exchanger tubes.

             Inspects the quality of repaired units within defined limits so that any deviations or abnormal sounds are identified and corrected proactively.

             Attends to breakdowns as instructed and effect corrective actions, ensuring adherence to procedures & guidelines to reduce downtime and maximize functionality of equipment.

Contractors

             Participates and supports tasks conducted by contractor staff and facilitates timely completion of scheduled tasks as per required Quality/HSE standards.

Progress Reports

             Reports and explains to foreman on work progress and problems encountered on the job assignment.

Safety, Health & Environment

             Complies with all relevant safety, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment
